Archivist and Circulation Assistant LibrarianThe Brearley School, an independent girls' school serving over 786 students K-12, welcomes candidates for an Archivist and Circulation Assistant Librarian beginning in August, 2026.Responsibilities include:Assessing, preserving, and maintaining the school's historical documents, objects, and oral historiesCreating and maintaining collection guides, computer archives, and databasesOrganizing and classifying archival records for ease of useCollaborating with the school community to acquire new materialsCurating archival materials for themed displays throughout the school buildings, including those in preparation for the school's upcoming 150th anniversaryAssisting at the library desks with circulation needsProcessing and preparing new books for circulationMaintaining the library spaceParticipate in library eventsThe ideal candidate will:Hold a MLS or have the equivalent experience; archives certificate preferredHave experience in managing an archive and working with digital materialsKeep up to date on archival standards and best practicesBe proficient with Follett Library Circulation software and archive-specific applications such as ArchivesSpaceHave a commitment to the education of girlsUnderstand the needs of students at various stages of intellectual and personal developmentDemonstrate curiosity, creativity and collaborationPossess excellent oral and written communication skillsBe collegial and enjoy working collaborativelyDemonstrate cultural competency and a deep investment in inclusive practicesAbout the SchoolFounded in 1884, Brearley's mission has long combined outstanding academics with an insistence on a larger purpose: A passionate exchange of ideas within the School's walls that prepares girls of adventurous intellect and diverse backgrounds to put their knowledge and habits of mind to meaningful use in the wider world.A center of intellectual exuberance, the School offers an extraordinary program to girls from across and beyond New York City, attracting and developing a dynamic and committed faculty, who, along with a talented staff, instill in Brearley students a love of learning, an ability to think critically and creatively, a deep curiosity about the world and a pioneering spirit. We are based in two library spaces: one dedicated to our youngest students, where we cultivate an early appreciation for reading and exploration, and the other serving our Middle and Upper School students as a vibrant hub for study, reflection, inquiry, reading, and collaboration.
